Mentorship, Advocacy, and Unique Opportunities

DNP students complete an evidence-based clinical practice improvement project under the mentorship of experienced DNP program faculty members. DNP students also have the opportunity to advocate for health policy changes based on their DNP project work at the local, state, or national levels.

A Flexible Online Degree

  • This part-time DNP program includes five synchronous online classes per semester allowing you to fulfill professional and personal commitments while earning your doctorate degree.
  • Two on-campus intensives鈥搊ne at the start for program orientation and one at the end where students present their DNP project work.
  • Ability to complete the program in two years (five semesters).

    • Be a graduate of an accredited master鈥檚 degree nurse practitioner program
    • Be licensed as a registered nurse in New York State, state certified and board eligible as a family nurse practitioner, an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, or psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
    • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 from a master鈥檚 degree program in nursing, or equivalent professional experience
    • Evidence of successful completion of a statistics course is required (grade of B or higher)
    • Submission of two personal statement following the guidelines below.
    • A resume or outline describing at least the past five years of your employment history and any significant community, professional, or college extracurricular activities.
    • Applicants need 2 letters of recommendation. Letters should be from academic or professional references that can knowledgeably comment on your ability to successfully complete graduate study. Include recognitions and achievements (e.g. licenses, publications, and awards).
    • All Official Transcripts: Transcripts from every accredited college or university attended (not just the degree granting institution) must be sent either to 今日黑料, directly from the academic institution electronically or by mail, or forwarded by the applicant in sealed envelopes from the academic institution.
    • No standardized admission test (GRE or Miller Analogy) required
    • Qualified applicants will be interviewed by the DNP Admissions Committee.
  • Two essays are required for the DNP application.

    1. Discuss your two (2) major reasons for pursuing the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. Additionally, describe how your professional experiences to date have prepared you for doctoral study, and how you foresee the DNP degree enhancing your practice or advancing your career.
      • This essay should be no more than 500 words, double spaced, with one-inch margins and free of grammatical and mechanical errors. Citations are not required. Include your name and the title of your statement.
    2. Identify a clinical problem from a population or system perspective that you would like to focus on for your DNP Project. Include background information on why this topic is important for advanced practice nurses to address. Identify possible ideas for a clinical practice improvement to address this clinical problem in the identified population or system.
      • This essay should be no more than 750 words, double spaced, with one-inch margins and free of grammatical and mechanical errors. Include your name and the title of your statement.

    Additional information regarding your academic performance or professional experience may also be included as a supplement.
